New CD release, Jeff Cairns - Jeff Bird, ZenZen

Greetings all. I'm happy to announce the release of my new joint recording with Cowboy Junkies member Jeff Bird entitled ZenZen.
This was truly an auspicious re-union after 35 years of two friends who started their music lives together.
Jeff Bird, original and long time member of the Cowboy Junkies, brings his depth of experience and musicianship
to the table in these pieces.
Two pieces are based on shakuhachi honkyoku: Choshi shakuhachi/wood bass and Yamaga (based on shika no tohne) shakuhachi/mandolin
The other pieces are based on concepts: Korean pansori, American folk, and Okinawan shimauta
The final piece is a shakuhachi solo based on a composition by pianist Bruce Stoller entitled Distant Spaces.
