Hi Yuusui, thanks, that is helpful. I was hoping someone would actually know the maker. Is this the same Mu that means nothing?

No, it is just the hiragana mu む, which is just a letter in the Japanese syllabic alphabet.
I don't know the maker. How is the flute? Very pale bamboo....

It's a really nice deep sounding 1.6 jiari Tozan.
