A friend informed me about a website where you can download free sheet music for Michiyo Miyagi compositions in simplified Kinko notation. I am sharing it with all of you hoping you will find it useful and even try to play some of this works: http://kisai.fluteywind.com/miyagi-shakuhachi/
The most famous work by this composer is "Haru no umi" but there is a total of 47 works available, and many of them are quite famous as well, at least in japan.
I am not sure exactly how widely-spread is the simplified Kinko notation, but hopefully there will be at least some of you who can read it. It is very similar to Tozan notation except for the characters used for pitches which are Kinko style.
The website is in Japanese, but it should not be too difficult to download the scores, especially as they have alphabet transliteration for titles. For each score there are three links: the first one is a color version, the second one is a black-and-white version (both in B4 paper size format), and the third one is a horizontal layout version that can be accessed easily on a tablet.
The copyright of the works is supposed to have expired, and the permission was obtained from the person who produced the score by the person who scanned, cleaned up and uploaded them. So as far as I can tell they are available legally for download and use in not-for-profit circumstances.

I don't think there's any need for guilt there! Miyagi Michio has been dead for more than 50 years, so his compositions are officially in the public domain, and these look like completely re-typeset versions so that issue should be nullified too. I guess some of the lyrics might be from poets less than 50 years gone? I would be surprised to discover that Miyata Kohachiro had overlooked that issue though.
(On the other hand, for anyone feeling a more generalized guilt along the lines of "I really should support the Japanese music world financially," I'm not an ethicist or anything but my suggested solution is to use the money you would have spent on these PDFs to buy some sheet music by a composer that's still alive!)
