Yamamoto Hozan funeral

In order to honour Yamamoto Hozan's legacy and pay respect for the important role he has played in the shakuhachi world as a virtuoso player, flowers have been sent to the funeral service on the behalf of all ESS members.

The all-night vigil over a body or wake will take place tomorrow Sunday 16th February from 6 - 7 pm and the funeral service will take place Monday 17th February from 11 am to 1 pm. Both will take place at Aoyama Funeral Hall, 2-33-20 Minami Aoyama, Minato-ku, Tokyo - just in case some of you are in Tokyo.

I'm really sad and shymy to learn that: this man was great artist, curious, inventive who doesn't afraid to take other ways...even when he was a great master.
I never meet him but he still influence me... i've dedicaced my last Cd to him...

Thank you for your care and attention. It is a great loss.

I first heard the shakuhachi on an album called Lullaby for the Moon many years ago, and that very first note was the one thing that made me want to start playing: The most frail, sad, unreal tone I had ever heard. That was Yamamoto Hozan playing, and the song was Komoriuta.
