Kokusai Shakuhachi Kenshukan, European branch (KSK-Europe)
As many participants in this forum may know, the special invited guests at the 2014 European Shakuhachi Summer School were Furuya Teruo, Kakizakai Kaoru and Matama Kazushi. Furuya-sensei is the current head of the Kokusai Shakuhachi Kenshukan (KSK, also known as Chikushinkai, the school of playing established by Yokoyama Katsuya); together with him, Kakizakai-sensei and Matama-sensei complete a leading trio of KSK players who have close connections to senior players in Europe.
The 2014 Summer School provided the opportunity for in-depth discussions between these three guests and European-resident licensed KSK teachers Horacio Curti (a disciple of Kakizakai-Sensei), Jim Franklin, and Véronique Piron (both disciples of Yokoyama-sensei and Furuya-sensei). At the Summer School, H. Curti, J. Franklin and V. Piron were strongly encouraged by the three Japanese KSK guests to implement a European branch of the KSK. The aim of this organization is to represent and promote in a formalized fashion on this continent the ideals of playing and the style transmitted by Yokoyama-sensei and his senior disciples.
Since then, and after much discussion and planning, we are glad to announce that KSK-Europe now exists as an entity. It is initially founded upon the teaching studios of H. Curti, J. Franklin and V. Piron, but this structure will doubtless be extended in the future
With a clear intention of sharing the above-mentioned teachings and understanding of the shakuahchi, the KSK-Europe is planning workshops and concerts which include its teachers (both from Europe and Japan) in various combinations, commencing with a workshop and concert in Barcelona, 23rd and 24th May 2015, to be led by Horacio Curti and Jim Franklin. Details of this and other events will be publicized via the ESS calendar (shakuhachisociety.eu/events/calendar/) and the KSK-Europe website (kskeurope.wordpress.com/).
KSK-Europe understands itself as a part of the broader European shakuhachi community; as an organization, it will support the activities of the ESS, and its teachers will continue to contribute to the European Summer Schools, Prague Shakuhachi Festivals and other events, as they have done in past years.

It is very interesting and important news. I was glad to take KSK lessons during Shakuhachi Summer Schools in London, Barcelona and Radolfzell. Excellent teachers and players, beautiful people, thank you for what you do for Shakuhachi world.
