This workshop is entered on pieces from the KSK and Chikuho repertoires. Beginner-level pieces will be offered, as well as more advanced pieces. It is assumed, though, that participants can already produce a sound reliably from the instrument, and play kari and meri notes in otsu and kan. In this sense, it is not a workshop for people who have not yet played shakuhachi. Nevertheless, students who do not yet have a great deal of experience with playing the shakuhachi are encouraged to attend; attempting to play a little beyond one’s present ability can bring results which come to fruition at a later time.

As part of the workshop, Riley Lee and Jim Franklin will present a public concert in the church on the evening of 08.05.2020. Entry to this concert is free of charge for workshop participants.

The exact pieces to be taught will be advised as soon as possible. The workshop will end with a student concert, at which participants will present the pieces they have studied.
