Here are the ones I have, please post yours!

Kinko Fingering Chart from Shakuhachi Society of B.C. : Left part / Right part / Entire

Thanks JF!

OK "volunteers" we still need Chikuho, Myoan Shinpo Ryu, Myoan Taizan Ha just off the top of my head.

When I explain to western musicians and composers that not only does Japanese notation vary from instrument to instrument but that even on shakuhachi there are numerous systems they shake their heads.

But they say, "It sure looks pretty."

Hello JF Lagrost,
Thank you for the fingering charts! I have a question to the Kinko table from Shakuhachi Society of B.C.. There are notes marked with a symbol that looks somewhat like a little star and they are called special notes. How should this be understood?

These "special notes" can be understood as an alternative fingering, to produce the same pitch with a different sound (and therefore a different meaning).
For example : ウ instead of チのメリ / ハ instead of り / etc.

It's often the problem with free hosters, they don't offer direct links and they're sometimes limited in time. I edited your message with direct (and permanent) links to my iDisk, it should work... Okay

[Edit 2012/06/14] : Changed links, files are now hosted on Dropbox.

I think Kiku supplied the Myoan Taizan Ha you were looking for.

For the Chikuho, I found this:
(source)
http://myoanflute.blogspot.com/2009/09/chikuho-ryu-fingering-charts.html - the fingering charts there were found from http://www.chikuhoryu.jp/index.html (jp)

I was unable to find a fingering chart for Myoan Shinpo Ryu.

Is there I fingering chart anywhere for JUST the seven hole Shakuhachi? I've seen one for both five and seven hole in one chart, and there's so much there I find it confusing...

Perhaps you could post that five+seven hole fingering chart and someone here can give advice or edit it to make it seven-only?

Maybe mattrn speaks about the "Tozan and Kinko" fingering chart I posted (there are fingerings for 7 hole shakuhachi).

Here is a chart I put together using Tom Deaver's Chart as a source. It seems to be pretty popular, it's my most popular image on Flickr!

Thanks John. That's a really nice chart. I was talking about the "Tozan and Kinko" chart, Spiralofhope, now that I have a seven-hole pvc I hope to tease out the seven hole parts and make a seven hole chart.

Hi Matt, I know, I just wanted to put that up there since this thread was a collection and I hadn't posted it. Smile

I just completed a C# program called Shakuhachi Fingering Chart that gives you the fingering when you select the note name (written, pronounced, or Western). It's derived from the Zensabou fingering chart that Kiku provided. As an added feature, you can select the length of the shakuhachi so that it's easier to figure out what Western pitch you're playing. The link to the program with instructions on how to download it can be found here: http://shakuhachi.atspace.cc/finger_chart.html

It only runs on Microsoft. I'm working on a web-based version, but I have too learn ASP.NET first...
