Good to see you here! Those jazz lessons I took from you, with the exercises and frame of mind for experimentation that you taught me, worked wonders. It's good to hear that you're teaching some traditional honkyoku now too. I think it's important to learn other peoples/cultures songs even if that isn't ones primary focus.
For anybody relatively new to the forums, Geni moved from Albania to Boston to get a degree from Berklee school of music in jazz shakuhachi, a first, and a gutsy move. He is one of the Skype teachers on the links section of http://shakuhachi.atspace.cc that I have had personal experience with.
