bamboo hunt
bamboo hunt
been out on a hunt today and selected some nice bamboo unfortunately not found much for a 1,8 ( my quest) but should hopefully make some bigger flutes. I will probably start work tomorrow. The bamboo is not madake in fact I don't know what it's called something I can't even pronounce but it does work nice green and dos't seem to crack it's the same bamboo I have used in my profile picture I wonder if any one recognises it?.

Having made a handful of PVC shaks, and two out of bamboo now, it's a great feeling of pride to make and play your own flute. I can imagine that pride is only doubled by harvesting the bamboo yourself! Where do you live Andy?
Hello Michael I live in cornwal England it's not somewhere where you find bamboo just anywhere I noticed some bamboo growing in a front garden as I was coming home from work one day and asked if I could dig some up.the guy was only to pleased to have some one thin it out a bit. Since then I was told about a garden that had about 14 acres of various bamboo (shakuhachi heaven) it's been very interesting finding what works and what dosn't
I'm living in relatively cold country, because ph.bambusoides madake growing is not possible.
Do you have any experience any other bamboo types?(ph.viridis,or ph.tanakea)
I want make root-end shakuhachi.
THX!

Hi bamboosound I guess you have to look around and try to find something the right length and the right width and good nodal placement. They are the important factors if there right then the flute should work. But remember if you make a flute out of a particular bamboo and it dosn;t work very well that dosn;t necessarily mean that that bamboo is not suitable every bamboo is different.Good luck
What I mean by nodal placement is you want the holes in between the calmes of the bamboo please fogive poor spelling
