Shakuhachi Folk Tunes - Anyone know where to get these?
Shakuhachi Folk Tunes - Anyone know where to get these?
Hi,
I'm interested in obtaining the series on Shakuhachi Folk Tunes, the site komuso.com lists them:
Shakuhachi Folk Tunes Vol1 - Vol3
Vol 1 : http://www.komuso.com/albums/albums.pl?album=955
Vol 2 : http://www.komuso.com/albums/albums.pl?album=489
Vol 3 : http://www.komuso.com/albums/albums.pl?album=1104
I have no idea where to buy them. Does anyone know where to get them? Perhaps sell them used?
Thanks!

Look at https://www.mejiro-japan.com:443/?lan=en they have a lot of minyo.
Michael Chikuzen Gould has just released a new CD with 30 Children and folktunes. Direct order from him. 13$ shipping to Germany was 3.46$
Hello,
thanks a lot. Unfortunately a search at Mejiro's didn't turn anything up: https://www.mejiro-japan.com/search_result.php?search_field=Shakuhachi Folk…
perhaps a search in Japanese would yield results, but since I'm not speaking Japanese, perhaps someone who can could try?

Thank you, I'll check it out.
They call folk music "minyo" look around for that. You can probably also find some on www.shakuhachi.com
And by all means get Chikuzen's CD looks like a good collection.

I just had a quick look round on Meijiro's site and couldn't find any min’yō either. Those albums on Komuso.com are long gone - almost nothing stays in print in Japan - but there are similar CDs available on Amazon Japan.
Just right now they have a very good CD by Yashita Isamu (“Shakuhachi min’yō: furusato no uta”) on sale for 600 yen, which would make it worthwhile even with the shipping from Japan.
If you can cut and paste this into the search box it should come up: 尺八民謡/ふるさとのうた
You can get to a semi-English version of the Amazon.co.jp page by clicking on that option the upper right of the screen, which should be enough to get you though the ordering process.

Here's a Japanese site that has a list of tunes for free download. If you mouse-over the the Japanese song title, your browser will likely show the full address of the piece at the bottom of the screen and the last word in the address is the title of the piece written in Romaji which you can read. I can't vouch for the pieces at all, but it may be worth the look.
