I was just wondering, from which point on the top of the shakuhachi is the measurement taken from.
Is the overall length measured simply from end to end or is it taken from the mid-point of the cutting-edge of the utaguchi to the end?
Not a very exciting question but one that's been quietly bugging me!

Total length. 
And the length refers to the length of the flute, not the pitch. i.e. a 1.8 that plays on C# is still a 1.8 not a 1.9.
