Zen Love Song for jinashi shakuhachi and choir on YouTube
This is a video shot during a recording session of Roxanna Panufnik's "Zen Love Song" with Voces 8 and me.
I feel a little ashamed, had I known it was going up on YouTube, I would have dressed a little better and not JUST thought of being comfortable!

"Brian Tairaku Ritchie""Brian Tairaku Ritchie"Who jinashi dat be?
Sounds good.![]()
Thanks!

I use the 1.8 I bought from you because it was a left over after my students in London bought some 1.8's. I forgot the maker's name Ki....???
The A flute is a Shugetsu flute.
"Brian Tairaku Ritchie""Brian Tairaku Ritchie"Kinshu, it was one of his rare jinashi.
I thought so... but I wasn't sure as all the other Kinshu I had seen have been jinuri.
But that explains it!
Zen Love Song is the second movement of a larger piece called Wild Ways. Next year I hope to record the whole of Wild Ways. Then I will use a D flute made by Ken LaCosse and an A flute made by myself. The other movements are too much for me on this Shugetsu flute. My own A flute is slightly sharper (A = 442) and smaller, so it is easier for me to play all the movements on these flutes. And Ken's D flute fits nicely with my sharper A flute.
For Zen Love Song larger A flutes are ok and it was SO HOT when we recorded that these two flutes that are tuned too low were perfect.

Kiku
It was good to hear your performance. I really loved the piece and had meant to post the feedback earlier. Far out. I now realise how long it has me taken to actually listen to you. Far out. I am glad the video was available. I understand that you were concerned about not dressing up for the video images, I thought that was pretty funny and my feedback is don't worry. The only thought of being comfortable...sounds cool.

I suppose in the modern world with cameras everywhere we need to dress up as if we are fashion models every time we walk out the door.
Yeah.... I know. Thanks for cheering me up, Fiona!
By the way the piece will be released on a Warner Classics CD! Wow! one of my PhD pieces on such a label! I am actually pretty pleased!

It was fun! The session was very smooth, a great choir... and once they got me onto the conductor's pulpit or platform.... (what is that word?
), the shakuhachi could be heard better. I hope to perform with them at some point.

Sweet! Keep us in the loop if you do a performance with them Kiku. Lovely voices. Your accompaniment was well suited.
There's nothing to be ashamed of, in the end, the only thing that counts is music and yours is always so... inspired!
It is always a great pleasure for me to hear your exquisite playing skills. Even if I'd wish to hear you a little more in this sequence.
We have to watch ourselves... or others will.
