Sellers and manufacturers of flute equipment in EU?
Hello, everyone!
I just received my long awaited new flute (1.35) from California by S.P. Shepard, which I am extremely happy with. I love to play it and would like to start taking it with me to lessons with my teacher at some point. The only problem is that I don't own any equipment to protect the flute during transport (let alone in the house) and therefore I keep it wrapped up in cling film in the package it arrived.
For my 1.8 I have a wonderful set of equipment kindly sent to me by Perry for a very reasonable price, however the one scruple I have with buying all products from America and having them shipped is that it costs me 35$ for shipment to Denmark.
Monty Levenson, Perry Yung, Ken LaCosse/Susanne Frey - all make excellent quality, very affordable shakuhachi equipment, and were it not for the additional shipment costs I could easily buy at least one new bag every month without jeopardizing my economical situation.
Therefore I ask of everyone here: Are there any shakuhachi manufacturers, who also produce equipment for the flute, who has equal attention to detail as the American based manufacturers, stationed somewhere in Europe? If you know of someone then I would greatly appreciate if you could tell me who they are so I can contact them and take a look at their products.
Lastly, where does one get those looooong plastic bags which are so convenient for flute storage? Perry sent me some with the kit but I haven't been able to find any in any stores here in Denmark. It's almost as if those things are made specifically for people involved with flute trades and the like

Rasmus, there are plenty of players in Europe, maybe it's time to pick up a needle and thread and fill that gap.

For the long plastic bags try a shop which sells outdoor equipment like tents and such. They should have them for rods and levers.

Hi Rasmus, I'm so happy to hear that my accessories kit is working for you. The long plastic sleeves are individually cut from a roll and then one end heat sealed. I don't think you can buy these anywhere but I've seen thin plastic sleeves bags made for umbrellas you may be able to find. They give these away in Japan at store entrances on rainy days to prevent getting the floors wet.
I always tell international inquiries for my Chikusing Utaguchi Caps to make their own as shipping is more than the item. Many people do!

This posting on the ol' BBQ forum was made in 2005, I've since switched to using a leather hand punch tool for the holes.
I think USPS is now offering Flat Rate envelopes for $16.95. I may be able to stuff a lot into them

Absolutely. There may be a small business in it for you if you're handy. As for the plastic sleeves, I can't find the thick plastic ones, but I use umbrella sleeves. The plastic is thinner, but it works.

Thanks Perry! Yes, it has worked splendidly so far. I'm able to bring the flute with me to classes at school and then to classes with my teacher without any problems whatsoever. I'm a bit worried about the coming months because of heavy rain- and snowfall, because the flute just barely sticks out of my bagpack. But I've been thinking about buying one of those bags which fishers use for their rods.
It's true about the flat free envelopes, I completely forgot that you shipped me the kit in one of those. I might contact you sometime in September and then we can talk about that bag

Bamboo likes humidity so when it rains, it's actually a good time to take them out of the plastic bags to absorb some humidity.

You are more than welcome. And yes I make my own plastic sleeve bags. For the record, for the price of even the flat rate envelope, you should be able to find an airtight plastic tube similar to this one to store your flutes in.
