Pieces for shakuhachi and koto in staff notation?
Pieces for shakuhachi and koto in staff notation?
Hello all
Does any of you have pieces for shakuhachi and koto in staff notation that you can either share or let me know where to buy?
I have so far only Haru no umi and Emu.
It is for some students at the conservatory, who wish to play Japanese music on harp and recorder. They are very keen.
If not, I may have to rewrite from koto tablature and shakuhachi notation to staff notation. But I rather not.... I must admit...
Thanks for your help!

I also have Kōjō no tsuki (in E minor), Chin-Chin Chidori and Sakura. These are transcriptions for transverse flute, you may have to adapt for the recorder.
Kiku, most modern compositions are written in staff notation. I know that Marty Regan writes pretty much all of his compositions in staff notation. Maybe you are referring to more traditional music though.
Masayuki Koga has a sankyoku series written in both Kinko ryu and Western 5-line staff notation that's available from Monty Levenson. The collection includes:
*Kurokami
*Tsuru no Koe
*Sode Koro
*Kosu no To
*Shin Takasago
*Yugao
*Sue no Chigiri
*Chidori no Kyoku
*Keishi no Hana
*Kajimakura
*Shin Musume Dojyoji
*Zangetsu

Yes, I was looking for more traditional stuff as yes, the modern compositions are often in staff notation. But the harp and recorder player want to learn from the tradtion. They are not closed for modern pieces at all... but I was more looking for traditional and semi-modern for now.
Jean-François, transcriptions for traverse flute si not a problem... but is the koto part transcribed as well?
The same for the pieces in Masayuki Koga's book?
I have a few pieces for shakuhachi and kotot where only the shakuhachi part has been transcribed.... but the harp players needs to work on something too.
